Dr. Cotman is a Professor at the University of California in the
Departments of Neurobiology and Behavior at the School of Biological
Sciences; and Neurology in the College of Medicine. He is also Director at
the University of California Institute for Brain Aging and Dementia, a
multi-disciplinary research effort combining basic science and clinical
research in the areas of neurology, molecular biology, neurobiology and
biochemistry. His landmark studies at UCI since 1968 have advanced the
understanding of Alzheimer's, Parkinson's, and other age-related disorders,
and his recent research on exercise and antioxidants has led to the
development of strategies to promote successful brain aging. Due to his
outstanding achievements and work, Dr. Cotman is a 2004 UCI Medal recipient
which is The University of California, Irvine's highest honor. This award
is in recognition of excellent support for the university's mission of
teaching, research and public service. He has published over 671 papers
and 7 books to date.
